El entrenador del Villarreal destaca el esfuerzo realizado por los suyos ante el Athletic
El entrenador del Villarreal CF, Unai Emery, destacó que sus hombres realizaron un gran esfuerzo para empatar ante el Athletic Club en San Mamés (1-1). Los amarillos venían de jugar el jueves en Austria y se enfrentaban a un equipo que llegaba en buena línea. “Los empates quedan reducidos a pocos puntos para lo que queremos, pero empatar con el Athletic de Bilbao en San Mamés se puede considerar bueno. Hay que mirar el lado positivo. El equipo ha competido y ha trabajado mucho. Su gol nos desajustó un poco y en la segunda parte ellos tuvieron más ocasiones. Nosotros en los últimos 10 minutos fuimos más verticales. Hay que seguir trabajando con nuestra idea”, comentó Emery.
Para Emery, el gol vasco fue importante en el desarrollo del choque: “Jugamos con personalidad y estuvimos bien colocados hasta el 1-1. El Athletic encontró algún espacio más y creó más ocasiones, pero Sergio estuvo bien. Nos faltó cambiar el ritmo en ataque para desequilibrar. Llegábamos bien, pero nos faltaba crear peligro. En la segunda parte tuvimos menos control porque nos faltaba frescura en las piernas. Fuimos a por el segundo gol en los últimos 10 minutos. Tuvimos posibilidades y acciones para poder desequilibrar”.
Para finalizar, Emery se mostró optimista de cara al partido de vuelta de dieciseisavos de final de la UEFA Europa League ante el FC Salzburg del próximo jueves en el Estadio de la Cerámica (18.55 horas): “Vamos a intentar darle continuidad al 0-2 conseguido en Austria. Tenemos mucho respeto al rival y a la eliminatoria. Debemos encontrar el rendimiento para superar esta eliminatoria. La Europa League nos ilusiona. Queremos hacer un camino bonito”.
