La técnico de la Conselleria de Educación, Cultura y Deportes, dirigida por Vicent Marzà, ha visitado esta semana el Ayuntamiento de Forcall. Convento de los P.P. Dominicos, para estudiar de primera mano el proyecto que tiene el ayuntamiento en esta localidad de Els Ports para recuperar sus vestigios patrimoniales más singulares de nuestro territorio.
Dentro de las actuaciones que realiza la Dirección General de Cultura y Patrimonio junto con los diferentes ayuntamientos y entidades sin ánimo de lucro mediante subvenciones, según la Resolución de 7 de septiembre de 2020, se está realizando en Forcall la “Reparación de las cubiertas de la iglesia del convento de los Dominicos”.
Esta iglesia perteneciente al antiguo convento de Dominicos está considerada Bien de Relevancia Local según la Disposición Adicional Quinta de la Ley 4/1998, de 11 de junio, del Patrimonio Cultural Valenciano.
El inmueble es propiedad del Obispado de Tortosa, en la actualidad se encuentra cedido al ayuntamiento para su gestión y uso.
En este caso la actuación realizada se refiere al cambio de parte de la cubierta de la iglesia, concretamente la segunda y tercera crujía, cambiándole las cerchas de madera, el tablero y la teja superior.
La subvención concedida asciende a un total de 37.027’75 euros. Estas actuaciones terminarán el 4 de diciembre.
El convento fue fundado en 1.609 y es en 1612 cuando acabó de construirse. En 1835 y tras la desamortización de Mendizábal se abandona el edificio por los dominicos, desde entonces su estado de conservación no ha dejado de empeorar. La iglesia es de una sola nave con cúpula en la cuarta crujía, cubierta por bóvedas de cañón el resto, posee capillas laterales entre contrafuertes, coro a los pies y torre campanario, toda ella está rodeada por construcciones de propiedad particular que se encuentran en un estado de ruina.
Está situado en la carretera de Todolella a las afueras de la población.
